So someone asked me about this earlier so I'll just copy/paste what I wrote to him:
This is so out there it's embarrassing to even write it: basically as the world started to die off, a group of scientists biologists and technicians working secretly for the UN banded together to create a way that they could preserve the human race so that they could one day potentially revive the planet and continue living on in harmony. So with limited time and resources they created a bio-mechanical self regenerating life form that could essentially withstand any environmental conditions, and was strong, hardy and malleable enough to be up for the task of rebuilding a society where there was limited resources and accessible technology.
The development process took around 15 years and the production took another 5. They made as many of these things as possible in the given time frame. Somewhere around 500 or so and they selected the most suitable mental and physical candidates to have their minds and bodies transplanted inside these bio-mechanical forms. There were some military men, some scientists, mathematicians, and many underlings that could follow orders. This was meant to be a group that could rebuild out of the ashes and they were not chosen at random.
These host bodies are the liquid black things you see in a few of my pictures, they can shape shift, are very strong, fast and impervious to most forms of damage.
These people were placed in a series hidden stations located all around Europe and were put in human sized pods where their bodies would essentially be dissolved and merged with their respective bio-mechanical host. This process was very delicate and took over 100 years to complete.
After the hundred years was up the world was projected to be mostly a wasteland with few remaining human civilizations.
One man, who's name I have not thought of yet, let's call him V, awakes from his stasis chamber, fully transformed. He is weak and disoriented. His station is located in north western Russia. Upon getting his bearings and letting his memories come back to him he realizes that all the other pods have already opened and he can see clear evidence that some of his peers simply dissolved immediately upon exiting their pods where others left no trace as to their state of being.
He exits the station and begins wandering without any real cause. It seems the whole plan fell apart.
V is an interesting guy in that through his life as a human, he never could relate to other people, he felt like he was talking through them like they simply couldn't comprehend the things he found facinating and thought provoking. He grew apart from his wife and children and when the apocalypse rolled around he never even bothered to say goodbye to them. He just didn't care.
--Now I haven't thought too much about his character pre transformation but I'm expermenting with the idea that he had a girlfriend on the side, or some emotional connection to one woman in particular who may have some part to play post transformation--
He designed machines for a living and programmed artificial intelligence. He always admired his creations for their emotionless rational thought, their mimicry of the best parts of the human race combined with superior form and function unhindered by biological flaws.
His transformation into a bio-mechanical being liberated him from his old self. He fell in love with his new form and enjoyed the freedom the new world that his evolution granted him. Over time he wondered less and less about the earths remaining human population and the goal to seek them out receded to the back of his mind in favor of new discoveries. However, deep down he is still human and he could feel the sting of loneliness creep into his thoughts. This was a contradiction to his newly acquired ideals. Finding companionship amongst human crowds (if there were any left) was not a pleasant thought and there was no notion of what happened to the others from the station.
He resolved to pick up his old career of creating artificial life. He found various decommissioned androids in various states of disrepair throughout the wastes. In old barns, burnt out villages. In a number of instances he discovered pits where the machines had been stripped of their useful bits and then thrown into piles and covered haphazardly with dirt. That was a strange sight.
Near a flooded field that may have once been used for growing crops he found a surprisingly intact female android laying partially submerged in water. She was missing some essential components but otherwise she would make for easy repairs.
Now this is kind of where this "story" starts. He repairs her and uses himself as her power source until a suitable battery can be found or created. He grows fond of her for all the reasons he loves machines and dislikes humanity. But as time progresses and she learns more about the world around her she starts to develop a personality. She is inquisitive, naive, and clingy. As the two grow together they eventually grow apart. He wants to learn from her how to become less human, she wants to learn from him how to become more human.
From there I don't know what happens. But that's the gist of it.
If i would to change anything it would be to put the theme on regaining humanity rather than losing it for "v", on coming with terms with his past and what he lost and forgot rather than trying to forget it.
If he starts of be being much less human than the robot, since hes been wandering the empty world for a while now before reviving her then instead of getting much more boring of a character he would be becoming more interesting one. Also there is more irony in learning humanity form a robot. This would also allow much more room for telling his story as we learn it with him without making a recap at the beginning, something i dont like in movies and books.
And the story itself could be about the two of them going through the ruins of humanity and trying to avoid the dangers of the world that is left as he tries to once know what it means to be human and her learn to live, and maybe find a way to go with the revival project anyway.
That would be a good idea for a book and reminds me a bit of ergo proxy, a anime i watched long ago.
Very creative I really like the story you put together so far. I really like the way the to character interact with each other, kind of a backwards relationship more or less. How as time goes buy they want to trade personalities. Very cool!
